Bali Stupa

Bali Stupa

(HDR image of the Buddhist stupa at the top of the Bramavihara-Arama Temple, near Banjar, Bali.) The Bramavihara-Arama Buddhist Temple is the religious site to visit in northern Bali; so, we went. The temple is vertical, with grounds, gardens, and shrines on several levels. At the top I emerged at an enormous open space, with wide lawns and seating steps set amongst manicured gardens, leading across a broad stepped field to this impressive stone stupa. The spiritualist in me reveled in the quiet majesty.

Diving is Fun

Diving is Fun

HDR image of a dive boat pulled up on the beach. A sign facing outward beneath the boat’s awning read “Diving is Fun with Siladen Resort and Spa.” In morning and evening the glossy paint on that boat picked up the sun and seemed almost to glow. The neat beach, colorful ocean, boats moored nearby, and the volcanic island Manado Tua in the background just made the scene more appealing.

Autumn Stream HDR

Autumn Stream HDR

(HDR image of a stream running through golden-colored autumn woods) The fall colors were already passing peak, but the woods blazed with gold (and a little green and orange). Standing next to the stream, I was looking due west; the warm sunset light backlit the fall colors in the woods, making the scene glow. The colors were impossibly vibrant and saturated. I decided to try an HDR capture.

Dropping

Dropping

(HDR image of a blazing yellow maple tree standing alone in a pool of its own dropped leaves.) The sun peeked through as we ascended the gravel drive/road, dramatically illuminating this tree standing alone in a pool of its own leaves in the high meadow behind the winery. We parked quickly. I grabbed my camera and pointed. I only remember saying, “that tree.”
